What is it?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine sterile, single use, disposable needles into the skin to stimulate points along the meridian channels to aid Chi (energy) flow. Points are selected on the lower limb (hip downwards) to help alleviate pain and for safe effective treatment of various Podiatric conditions. Podiatric Acupuncture can be used by itself or in conjunction with other Podiatric treatments.

Is it Safe?

Podiatric Acupuncture is a very safe form of treatment but there are a few possible side effects such as drowsiness, some people feel faint and there can be occasional bruising around the needle site. But most people experience no side effects whatsoever or feel very energised after treatment. It has fewer side effects than most prescription drugs. The podiatrist will take a full medical history before treatment commences.

What are the uses of Podiatric Acupuncture?

Podiatric Acupuncture has a vast amount of uses, it can be used for general health and well being, is very effective for pain control and in the treatment of musculo-skeletal conditions, by aiding the bodies self defence system to heal itself.

Why choose a Podiatrist?

Podiatrists are medically trained professionals that have undergone many years of training. They work very closely with other health care professionals to assist in providing the very best in all round medical care. They are closely monitored by the HPC (Health Professions Council) and have to keep up to date with current Podiatric practices via CPD (Continual Professional Development). They are bound by a strict ethical and professional code.

How many treatments are needed?

This depends on the condition being treated but the Podiatrist will advise on the amount of sessions required, which normally averages between 3-8 treatments.

Do I have to believe in Acupuncture to work?

No belief is required for the treatment to be effective but a positive attitude is always helpful for general good well-being.
